Annual pride started yesterday in Charlotte and although I was not a part of it, after watching my friend Tori’s snapchat, I am excited!
It all kicked off at snug last night with performers known wide and large. The biggest act being LA-based rapper Big Dipper. There was also a drag performance by Bethann Phetamine. Can I just say her name is AWESOME. (read it aloud if you don’t get the pun).
Today, Friday, there are some options other than music and performance based fun. At 5:30 there will be a pride cookout at The Bar at 316 (316 Rensselaer Ave.)
They will have all the fun adult games like giant jenga, flip cup (one of my favorites), and beer pong. I don’t want to inform you wrong so I’m not sure if the food is free or for purchase, but I can guarantee great fun, good drinks, and a event ALL ABOUT PRIDE.
Tonight you can also catch the Rocky Horror Picture Show! At 10:30 it will be shown at AMC Concord Mills 24 off of Concord Mills Blvd. It will cost only $8.50 and have its own special theatrical twists of gender, hints the official name, Rocky Horror: Gender Bender Night.
But don’t worry if you aren’t interested in watching Rocky Horror. There is one more Pride kick off party to be had Friday. At Chasers (3217 The Plaza) there will be a huge drag performance by Vegas Van Dank and four other performers. Take my word for it Drag is fun and exciting, it’ll be a crime to miss it!
And don’t forget! For all my fitness nuts there will be Stonewall Sports Pride Bootcamp at Romare Bearden Park (300 s. tryon st) from 11-12p and is absolutely free. The class is ran by trainers from Flex5 and is for ages 18+. Come ready for a little heat and a good workout, bring some water.
Tomorrow, on Saturday, the parade starts and lasts till Sunday. On Saturday the stage will be rocking from 12:30-9pm with live performances and Dj music. K.michelle also will be preforming Saturday at 7:30 pm.
Here is a pic from pride two years ago…
Sunday the stage will open at 2pm- 5:45pm for showcases and awards as well as a few more performances.
The parade is free but you can get VIP tickets from charlottepride.org ranging from $150-200.
Another pic with my best friend Nadirah.
I’ll see you guys out there! The cool thing about pride is that it’s not restricted to the LGBTQ community but supporters are also welcome! It’s family friendly, full of love, support, and FUN!
