Yesterday Dj Khaled was accused of stealing the beat to hit song “I got the keys.” Producer Chris Hill is suing the artist for an unspecified amount claiming the beat was stolen from their meeting in 2008 at an Atlanta night club.
The producer saw Khaled at the club and gave him a CD, “Chris Hill Beats (Gangsta Boogie Vol 2),” only to recognize the track 8 years later. Hill has also added a few other names to the list of defendants including Sony. Jay Z and Future were not named as defendants and are not directly involved in the case.
The track “I got the keys” is from Khaled’s ninth album and went platinum at the end of 2016. It’s sold well over 1 million digital copies and has racked up over 79 million YouTube views.
Hopefully Khaled and Sony still have the keys and make it through this case.
