Missy Slayed The Cover Of ELLE Mag

We all know Missy Elliot for being many things: a trendsetter, producer, dancer, and rapper. She has accomplished many feats in the industry. Her debut album was the highest charting for a female rapper, at the time. Now, 5 Grammys and close to 30 years later, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot continues to remain one of the most well respected, globally recognized female rapper in the game.
That’s why yesterday when Marc Jacobs released the cover of ELLE’s June issue, it shook the internet. Of course with last year’s NYFW, most of us remember Marc from the fashion show loc scenario, but now he has a little better light shined on him thanks to Missy.

I mean WOW! Missy Elliot and ELLE really put together a dope cover!! We weren’t really supposed to know it this early though. Marc Jacobs definitely jumped the gun with this one, but we are thankful. Missy slayed the cover in his fall ’17 collection to create some images that have us eager to see more!

Inside you’ll find an exclusive interview where Missy speaks one of her most well-known videos, “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).” She touched on the meaning behind the plastic bag suit saying, “To me, the outfit was a way to mask my shyness behind all the chaos of the look. Although I am shy, I was never afraid to be a provocative woman. The outfit was a symbol of power. I loved the idea of feeling like a hip-hop Michelin woman. I knew I could have on a blow-up suit and still have people talking. It was bold and different. I’ve always seen myself as an innovator and a creative unlike any other.”
We can all agree that Missy has always been an innovator and even a role model to many, so it’s a sure bet her interview with ELLE will be no short of inspiring. Missy felt the same way and took to IG to let her fans know she hoped it would inspire them to “feel it’s okay to just BE YOU! Never compromise just to fit in.”
