Drake Breaks Records At The BBMA’s

So last night we witnessed a lot during the Billboard Awards, some amazing performances, DJ Khaled catching some air on the magenta carpet, and Diddy previewing his “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story.”
But last night wasn’t just entertaining, it was record breaking! Well, at least for Drake.
First of all, let’s touch on his performance. Yeah everybody showed out, Nicki Minaj brought Wayne on stage, but Drake performed in the Bellagio Fountain. No one has done that since 2001 when Britney Spears performed her sexy song “I’m A Slave 4 U.” There were fireworks, flames, and water cannons. It was so “Drake,” we could barley stand it as he performed “Glychester” from his playlist More Life.
He didn’t just wow us visually though, last night he tied with Chainsmokers as the most nominated artist of the evening. His night was so impressive that he walked away with 13 awards!!! Yes, THIRTEEN.
What categories did he take the win in?
Well, when you win 13 times, “Artist Of The Year” has to be one of them. In that category, he was against the previous record holder for Billboard awards, Adele, Rih Rih, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, 21 Pilots, The Chainsmokers, Beyonce, and Justin Bieber. He was also recognized as “Top Billboard 200 Artist,” “Top Streaming Artist,” “Top Hot 100 Artist,” “Top Rap Artist,” “Top Male Artist,” “Top Song Sales Artist” and that is just in the artist category. Can we say he murdered it? Almost gruesomely?
He also took home a win for 6 more groups. Views won “Top Rap Album” and “Top Billboard 200 Album.” Also, “One Dance” earned “Top Streaming Song (Audio),” “Top R&B Collab,” and “Top R&B Song.” Lastly, he won the “Top Rap Tour.”
If he had taken home another, it would have been sickening, or amazing, really simply beautiful. Drake has come a long way from his R&B days and since leaning more towards rap, he has taken over the genre and has already left his mark globally.
What was your favorite moment from the Billboard Music Awards?
